I very rarely ever have dreams; my dreams are usually so strange that I generally classify them as nightmares because they're so weirdly disturbing. 95% of my dreams are actually nightmares, but I look at them differently from most people.
I dunno how much of a writer you are, but about a literal third of what I write is spawned from my own nightmares. I get excited when I have them. True, they're terrifying at the time, and some of them are so emotional that there's nothing to get excited about, but for the most part, my nightmares are action-packed with a plot of some sort. And maybe the details don't quite work out, but there's a timeline! The Man is based entirely off of a dream I had as is The Zeith - two of my original works.
So in my opinion, nightmares are cool! The best writing fodder! =D And really, they should be thought of such, right? Your mind takes so many random things, shoves them together, and then tries to make sense of it all at the same time: it's cool to see what your subconscious can come up with to bridge it all together while you're fast asleep.
