Minni Update: Doing Well
Dec. 1st, 2007 06:06 pmCame home last night to an excited puppy with no voice! Not that that stops her from talking; she more yipes at the moment than actually barks. ^^;
Minni's doing moderately well; not as well as we'd like, of course, but she seems to be improving very gradually. She's eating a lot more, now! I think she ate an entire can of food thus far. Normally, she's on dry food (it's all she's ever known), but the vet prescribed some easy-to-digest canned stuff for her, and though she doesn't exactly like it, she's being very good about it.
Keeping her hydrated is a real task. She has to drink at least 30cc of liquid per hour, which she doesn't like at all. Since I'm the one doing it, she's rather resentful towards me; wouldn't let me take any good pictures and kept moving! I did get one while she was sleeping...

Her disposition is one of a pup desperately happy to be home. :) And we're certainly happy that she's home, too. She's still a little unsure that we'll leave her, though that confidence is returning. We're still unsure that she's really going to be okay; her kidney function is still much higher than it should be, though it has been dramatically decreased.
Since we don't have a clue how she got to be so ill, were afraid to leave her alone, all taking turns watching her like a hawk. I don't think we'll ever be so flippant as to let her go out in the backyard by herself again, which is sad - sad to think that such an innocent thing is so potentially lethal to her.
Again, I can't thank y'all enough for your support through this. We probably love Minni a lot more than we're "supposed to," but I don't see how we could be any other way. :) It's still not over, but we seem to be past the largest hump. More could arise in the near future, but for now, the crisis has come to an end.
