Ace's first boo-boo.

So actually, I purchased him with the problem. Ace was the display laptop and absolute last one of his kind in this area ever since his model was being retired, if y'all remember - a fortunate coincidence which allowed me to buy him at a super cheap price. When I first was using him, I noticed that the adapter cord was a little looser than I liked, but I didn't think anything of it. Well, in the months that have followed, it's become a lot more loose, often falling out multiple times while I'm using him, which in turn affects if he's actually charging or not, etc.

Anyway, I've been procrastinating taking him up to Best Buy to find out what it's going to take to get him fixed because I already know it's going to be a battle for them to pay for it even though I have the warranty and purchased him under six months ago as a floor model, etc, etc.

Firstly, they say that it might be covered by the manufacturer's warrenty; I say it will be because I've never dropped him and I bought him like this, so I'm not backing down. But then I asked how long I was looking at, and they said that the estimated return date was Febuary 6. Uh, today is January 12; they're talking 4 days shy of a month! I barely caught myself from exclaiming, "Are you on crack?!" I can already see what the problem is; in fact, I've been severely tempted to attempt fixing it myself. The adapter plug in - a little bar that inserts into the adapter's cord - is just slightly bent. That's IT! That's the whole problem in a nutshell! I could fix it with my tweezers if I wanted to be daring and chance bending too far, breaking off the bar, or possibly offestting something else.

So. After that little revelation, I'm going to attempt it. What the hey, right? It's going to be a huge battle either way, and if I'm going to be Ace-less for a month for them to do the same thing and tell me to hand over my right arm in payment, why not take the chance? I won't be doing it yet; part of the reason that it's a month long wait is because of the holidays. So once March hits, I'll start really looking at the angle and carefully measuring how to do it. If anyone has any suggestions...? I wish I could heat up the bit of metal in there because that would ease my fears. However, he's a laptop, so I think means of heat I have would do damage rather than repair.

In the meanwhile, Ace is just fine. He still charges, runs quickly, has a pretty screen... He's just got a screw loose.

And if worst comes to worst, I'll be making backups of everything on him and then take pictures of his physical condition. I know enough about repair shops to know that you're just asking for a cracked screen or new dent or a missing key if you don't take inventory beforehand. Even though he actually has to be sent back to the manufacturer, I still won't take any chances.
