Shock of all shocks today, I headed over to GateWorld and saw this:

Don S. Davis: 1942-2008
One of my favorite actors. I cannot believe he passed.

You know what the creepy thing is? Just Saturday, Ter and I watched the episode of the X-Files in which he appeared as Scully's father, who died in the episode. And I had been thinking about said episode, thinking about how sad it would be when he really did die. I wondered if it would be announced on the news or entertainment shows, magazines or on Yahoo. I can't say I'm surprised that there's been next-to-no coverage, though.

It's gonna make Continuum really sad to watch. It's the last thing he was in...

You know what I loved most about him? That he defined Texas so well with just an accent and stance. I always grinned when they called him "Hammond of Texas;" unlike the blundering, hickish impersonations actors commonly portray of Texans, he did it with real southern style and class.

That, and he seemed like such a huggable guy! Generals aren't supposed to seem huggable, but I was always rooting for Sam to give him an impulsive squeeze for all us fans.

Very, very sad. I hope his family and friends find solace.

Rest in peace, Mr. Davis.
