I agree to an extent, because there definitely have to be those people out there that are just following the trend. But in all honesty, I think it's because most people just didn't have any clue. We're all human, and we're just so appalled that such a thing could occur, and in today's world of mass-information, that it could go on for so long on our watch.
I know I for one have been trying to follow this issue since roughly 2005. I never believed it was real, though. Every few months, I would see references to the horrible things happening in Uganda on the political forums I participate in, but most everyone would ignore the posts. My Google searches would pull up next-to-no information, and the info that I did find was so outlandish that I didn't believe it: how could that be true and no one care?
So even if IC turns out to be a HORRIBLE organization, I have to applaud them for bringing the information to us all - even if it is "oversimplified" as has been criticized.
