Title coined by Terri. Yes, this is just... culturally wrong.
My dad wanted orange chicken today, so it was up to Ter and I to locate a hole-in-the wall place that offered it. But then, I had the "brilliant" idea to go to the mall because we knew they had it there.
So then Terri says Teriyaki chicken sounds good, and I agree. So we get Japanese food that was made by Mexicans.
Ah... the chicken tastes like... fajita meat! No joke! And the fried rice? It's yellowish-orange: tastes like Mexican rice with... peas and carrots... and the occaisonal egg.
I'm really wishing I had some tortillas and refried beans... with my... Teriyaki Chicken...
And I just KNOW you're giggling over there, Morri. >.> Well yeah, it wasn't GOING to be real Japanese food in the first place, but we have standards for our Americanized versions of Oriental foods!! And this just ain't right! O_o

Date: 2008-02-12 03:08 am (UTC)when I was in high school, I became really close with the foreign exchange student from Okinawa, Japan (you may have heard this story before) and we went to a mall food court once where they were passing out samples at the "Japanese" resteraunt...where she tried one and promptly spit it out on the floor xD

Date: 2008-02-12 04:02 am (UTC)The mall, right outside the food court, it smelled like Disney! Like a foreshadow. We were talking about it, even! I know you worked merchandise, but you couldn't have gotten away from Disney without smelling the funk with oil smell at/around/mostly behind all the QSR locals! XD
The pathetic thing was we were all like, "*inhale! coughsputterchokestomachlurch* Ahhh, Disney. I miss it." So. Sad.
LOL about your friend! I hadn't heard that one! XD
Ohhh yes. My paid journal has teh edit function! SWOOT!
