I'm as giddy as my Minni Pup when her peoples arrive home with people food! What...What's this? Congress unwittingly may have made their diamond-rimmed health care benefits illegal? XD AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Baffled by Health Plan? So Are Some Lawmakers

WASHINGTON — It is often said that the new health care law will affect almost every American in some way. And, perhaps fittingly if unintentionally, no one may be more affected than members of Congress themselves.

In a new report, the Congressional Research Service says the law may have significant unintended consequences for the “personal health insurance coverage” of senators, representatives and their staff members.

For example, it says, the law may “remove members of Congress and Congressional staff” from their current coverage, in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, before any alternatives are available.

The confusion raises the inevitable question: If they did not know exactly what they were doing to themselves, did lawmakers who wrote and passed the bill fully grasp the details of how it would influence the lives of other Americans?

The law promises that people can keep coverage they like, largely unchanged. For members of Congress and their aides, the federal employees health program offers much to like. But, the report says, the men and women who wrote the law may find that the guarantee of stability does not apply to them.

Essentially, the idea this carries is that Congress should abide by the same laws they impose upon us, receiving their insurance from the Exchanges. There's no specific date in the bill-now-law for this part of the legislation to take effect, which generally dictates - yes, you gusessed it: immediate implementation. XD

But there are no Health Insurance Exchanges established yet!!! XD

Despite all this good news, I think this is my favorite part of the whole story:

“The confusion raises the inevitable question: if they did not know exactly what they were doing to themselves, did lawmakers who wrote and passed the bill fully grasp the details of how it would influence the lives of other Americans?

Gee... I seem to remember some people - a lot actually - saying something about.... That's right!

Oh Times, do you mean the Tea Parties and conservative talk radio hosts and the MAJORITY OF AMERICANS were RIGHT about the Congress Creatures needing to READ the bill first? That it was a bad bill? That by definition of the bill, Americans would NOT be able to keep their doctors and coverage?

Was John Conyers wrong about it being silly to read bills first before voting on them?

And hey Nancy! You told us that we had to wait until the bill was passed to find out all the goodies in it! Is this one of those goodies you were referring to? You sly Speaker, you. Holding out on us! We might have actually been conflicted if you'd told us you were nuking your own taxpayer funded "Cadillac Health Plans!"

Ahh, bravo Congress. Excellent form, reducing yourselves to the same level as the riffraff - I mean people. We always knew you were an honorable bunch.

Seriously, I of course have no doubt that if this piece of the law is true, Congress will immediately tweak it or draft a bill to correct their monumental error. That'll pick up some bipartisan support for sure!

Or wait! I have a better idea!

Why not just have the President sign an executive order? His EO's are above and beyond law now, you know. Stupak told us so.

*laughs into the distance*

Doesn't it just? XD

This story was actually from Tuesday, but I haven't seen any resolution about it as of yet, so this still stands.

Ahh, just makes me warm and fuzzy inside.
