TEA Party Report
Jul. 5th, 2009 06:59 pmSo yesterday, I placed my own John Hancock on the Declaration of Independence. :DDD With something like...erm... o.o thousands upon thousands other people.
Well, actually I don't know how many got up and signed as the line was long and ongoing; in comparison to how many were there, it was probably only a fraction.
The Dallas TEA Party was GARGANTUAN!! 35,000 attendees in 100+ degree heat is the number I'm seeing thus far; it is possible to change. There's another report out there that's claiming a loose 15,000 as reported by attendees, but I've been in a crowd of 16,000, and there were a lot more than that.
They were expecting as many as 50,000, which wouldn't surprise me as Fort Worth and other local areas didn't have a TEA Party listed. I don't think they hit quite that amount though as the heat ended up being more than what the weatherman predicted.
While we were there (from 7-11).... @.@ I don't have any earthly idea. The field stretched and stretched, and there were busy booths-upon-booths, play areas for the kiddies, and of course the munchies court.
The 'Party started at 3 and went until Midnight, which helped a lot with the numbers as people could come and go at any time. Free except for parking, I imagine that's how they're going to compute a general idea of how many were there. Of course, the helicopter circled around us for a good 15 minutes getting shots and estimates... But that was before the next huge wave hit.
It was a combination of a TEA Party Protest complete with 4th of July fun so whole families could come and we could celebrate the most American holiday together. We enjoyed speakers from local areas to as famous as Michelle Malkin, and partied to song artists as renown as lead singer of The Monkees, Mickey Dolenz. (Daydream Believer and I'm a Believer were two that he performed that made me go, "OoO WOAH!! SERIOUSLY?!! HE DID THOSE??!")
We were stuck in the parking lot for a full hour trying to get out.
Despite waking up sick today with allergies from sitting in a grass field for 4 hours, it was well worth it to see all the signs, hear the speakers, and generally just be surrounded by people that think the same way. :)
Although I did find it somewhat amusing to see that no firearms were allowed... For a group of mostly conservatives who are all for gun rights, and Texans no less!! I contend that we are the fiercest gun-loving people in the Union!! LOL
Before the TEA Party, we spent most of the day watching History Channel documentaries about the Revolution. It was fun! We left for the TEA Party after Bubby had to go to work. (He's a pizza delivery driver: there was no hope for a day off. T.T)
I hope y'alls' Fourths were just as fun!
What did y'all do yesterday?
