Iron Man 2

So I actually saw it on Friday morning. We woulda done a midnight show, but that would have been packed. Friday morning... oh, it was glorious.

All public school age children and teens were still in school. College students had early morning exams. Most intelligent parents of younger children aren't going to take their tiny ones to a movie involving Robert Downey Jr. & explosions. So it was amazingly quiet, except one part where the explosions were just too awe inspiring for a group of 4 year olds not to get excited, as well as spacious.

I've actually just been procrastinating on this because... I guess because I'm such an Iron Man fangirl that I don't know what to do with myself!

Since the first one was an A+, this one gets an A-.

I think what made this movie and its story difficult is that it's the middle. The middle of the story is always the hardest to write. - In my opinion and [limited] experience, at least. - This movie was almost more of filler. Kind of like the bridge between Iron Man & the Avengers.

Like the first movie, IM2 is far more dedicated to character development rather than action scenes, and I suppose that's why I love IM. There was a lot of story to pack into the movie though, so it's a fast moving plot and doesn't leave much time for contemplation as each scene takes you further into the story.

I'd say my number one criticism is how much Hammer was in it. No one cares about Hammer; he wasn't supposed to be the real villian. They should have taken anywhere from 1/3 - 1/2 of his time and divied it between Ivan, Pepper, and Rhodey. Even Jarvis! Jarvis was SO not in this one enough! There was way too much Hammer.

There were irritating plot holes and comic book conveniences. - Namely the new element he creates in like 15 minutes which cures him. I mean... come on. Yes, Tony Stark is a genius, but the believability of the first movie was one of its defining achievements. At least make it a gradual detoxification from the extraction of paladium rather than an immediate absorbtion by the new element. Seriously.

But enough bad stuff. It was hilarious that the Senator was from PA - everyone hates Arlen Spector. Which I doubt was at all what they were attempting to say, but I found it amusing. ... They could have just as easily made him from Nevada! lol

I love love LOVED all the banter in the movie! RDJ is so amazing. Again he took Tony Stark and turned him from a 2D comic book character to something resembling an almost real person. I loved seeing more of the person Tony became - that he was still his outrageous self, but he'd learned a lot. And wasn't so interested in random girls anymore. Loved all the tension between him and Pepper...

Yeah. I totally grinned at the roof scene. :D HEE!

I never get books based off movies; I've never seen the purpose. Reading books on which movies are based is entirely different, but for a book to be based off a movie has always seemed counter productive to me. Movies are inherently always going to be incomplete due to the constraints of film, so books based off those scripts are going to carry the same flaws.

But I bought the Iron Man 2 book... for a handful of reasons, including that I had $5 in Border's Bucks. Namely because I want to find out more about Howard Stark and I want to know what Stark Industries is doing now! They never mention what SI is doing in the movie - just that the company is in disarray. Hopefully the book has more info; there have already been a couple extra tidbits in the first chapter.

Anyway. I'm gonna stop here, because I've babbled far too long as it is.

Iron Man 2: Go see it! :D

The Avengers is set to be released 2012... Along with Star Trek 2. Oh my gosh, how are we going to survive the sheer awesomeness of 2012's movies?

I just saw IM2 tonight...awesome! :D

It was hilarious that the Senator was from PA - everyone hates Arlen Spector.

I'm from PA so that part of the movie cracked me up! XD Man, I can't wait for November for elections! :p

I ADORED the roof scene (I totally ship them!) :D I was actually sort of worried that they weren't going to have a kiss or anything like that because they wanted to stick to the comics and in the comics they don't get together but when two characters/actors have such explosive chemistry...XD Did you notice in the trailer she kisses his mask and then he jumps off the plane and says "You complete me!" and that totally wasn't in the movie? I was bummed. :p But the kiss made it better! (But darn, it's gonna be hard to icon in a few months!)

I need to go see it again; I intend to see it at least 3 times while it's in theaters. Just to support it. Before I'd seen the first one, I didn't know anything about Iron Man, and I'd thought it was going to be a crumby B movie because of the trailers. Superman was my favorite superhero followed by Spider Man & Batman.

Yeah. I was happily stunned.

Superman is sooo not my fav anymore. Iron Man is hands down my favorite! :D

I ship them too! :D I'm so glad they decided to put them together! I was disappointed by the missing scene; I think it would have added to the whole chemistry thing a lot more. But it is in the book. ;D

I'm not the only one wondering about why Tony is still buds with Rhodey though, am I? It's just... they always leave such little Rhodey in it that he's reduced to making stupid mistakes, and you have to wonder, "Okay... why does Stark like this guy when he keeps betraying him?"

I second what you've written! And I was totally bummed that they didn't have Pepper kissing his helmet and then he dives off the plane for it as he yells, "You complete me!" As for Hammer, I was hoping Whiplash or Iron Man smacked him really hard!!!! Ohhh did you see the sneak peek at the very end of the movie?!!!? Oh if you think we're getting spoiled by the upcoming Avengers movie and Star Trek 2, guess what else is coming out?

*takes a deep breath and begins to speak like a radio announcer*

Green Lantern, Captain America, Thor, Deadpool, Spider Man 4, Venom, X-Men 4, Gambit, Iron Man 3, Jonah Hex, Batman (the sequel to the Dark Knight) and Superman (a complete reboot by the brillant minds who brought you Batman Begins and The Dark Knight)... I think between now and 2013, I'm not going to make it... All of these wonderful movies coming out... I'm just getting so spoiled!!!!

I know, right? I was looking forward to that scene! On the bright side, it will at least be in the trailers section of the DVD/Blu Ray, if not in the deleted scenes section. :D

I did see the secret ending! I'm a little worried about a super hero named Thor, though... I know they're completely different, but I just... I can't get the idea of Heman standing with his little weapon to the sky shouting, "IIIIIIII HAVVVVVVE THE POWERRRRRR!" <.< I mean... doesn't Thor wear a skirt or something?

I've known about most of those... And it's about all I can do to not check on them obsessively. I hope they keep up the excellent work! There's going to be a Sherlock Holmes 2, too! :D All I have to say is that if the world ends in 2012 (Haha. XD), we are going to die two very happy chicas! - Though I must plead with the... Mayans is it? I must plead that we be allowed to make it to 2013 for Iron Man 3!!
