I went to see this movie with my coworkers Friday night; it was our Team Outing. We got 3 hours and enough of a team budget to have a cheap meal and tickets to see the film. I had been dreading it, what with Oliver Stone being the mind behind it all, but had determined to enjoy myself. Well... that was unnecessary.
I can't stand Oliver Stone, but this movie... Holy cow, this movie was
excellent. Really, it was brilliant!
I was
extremely surprised at how a-political it was, by and large. - Oh, there were some things, but it was about Wall Street, not pointing fingers in Washington. Which is exactly as it should have been, because it affects everyone and everyone was involved in bringing it to where we are today.
I'm gonna go unabashedly all financial/economic on y'all....
( If you don't understand what happened in 2008's crash, you'll have a hard time following this movie... )All in all, I wouldn't recommend this movie for everyone. It
is a really good movie, but if you're not into examining the 2008 economic spiral and pondering the systemic situation in which we as a nation and even world find ourselves today, it will only frustrate you. - Though you may enjoy the characters' saga, which was pretty enjoyable.
However, if you want to know more about what happened in 2008 and don't mind a few mental gymnastics that will call you to watch the film another time or three, I'd say this is an excellent way to get a good piece of beginner's understanding.
